Head of the department is

The Department of Radiology's goal is to provide a well-rounded
background in the radiological sciences to residents, medical
and graduate students. While individual training programs
are conducted by separate sections (diagnosis, nuclear medicine,
physics and radiobiology), integrated didactic and practical
work is offered to afford satisfactory development and correlation
of knowledge.
At Radiology Department, Faculty of Medicine, we provide both
under-graduate and post-graduate educational programs. The
Department of radiology serves a population of approximately
650,000.
Radiography may well be the fastest technically advancing
field in medicine today due to computer enhancement. Radiographers
are highly skilled health professionals who work closely with
physicians specializing in the use of x-rays. They provide
patient services using a variety of imaging modalities.
In addition to conventional x-ray procedures, the radiographer
also works with computerized axial tomography,
magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound. The radiographer
must apply the principles of radiation protection, use and
be competent in the maintenance of delicate and complicated
equipment and often deal with patients who are under stress.
The Faculty of postgraduate provision is well established
and recognised as being of high quality by the professional
bodies and Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.
Resident conferences are held
every morning at 8:00 AM and involve either case discussion
or didactic lecture by a faculty radiologist. Radiology Grand
Rounds usually are a lecture by a visiting radiologist and
are held every week.
In Keeping with the goals
of the Lugansk state medical university (which is our university
hospital affiliation), we emphasize patient care and seek
to train the radiology residents to think for themselves and
to act as an integral part of the medical team in patient
management.
We feel that it is important
to instruct our residents how to teach. This provides them
with many opportunities to teach and to present, including
colloquia, journal club, case conferences, intra- and interdepartmental
clinical conferences and presentations to medical students
rotating through radiology.
The post graduate course is
offered in the medium of English. The duration of the course
is 2 years. The Ph.D. degree is also available for the duration
of 3 year after the Post Graduation.
Minimum Eligibility for admission
: MBBS, MB ChB or MD.
